How to Build a Brand People Actually Remember

Written by Bel Danks-Woodley, Founder, DW&Co.

In a world saturated with logos, taglines, and carefully curated Instagram grids, standing out isn’t about shouting louder — it’s about saying something meaningful, consistently, and memorably.

So, how do you build a brand that sticks in people’s minds (and hearts)? Here's our take;

1. Start With Clarity

Before clever design or catchy words, clarity is king.

  • What do you do?

  • Who is it for?

  • Why should they care?

If your team can’t answer those questions in one sentence, it’s time to get back to the brand strategy board.

2. Own Your Story

People don’t remember businesses — they remember stories. A strong brand tells a story that resonates:

  • Your "why"

  • Your values

  • Your origin and evolution

The more personal and authentic, the better. Brands with personality win over brands with polish, every time.

3. Be Consistent (but Not Robotic)

Your audience should get the same energy from your Instagram bio, email signature, packaging, and in-person experience. That’s what builds trust.

But consistency isn’t sameness — it’s being reliably you, across every touchpoint.

4. Design That Feels Like You

Good branding design doesn’t just look great — it feels aligned.

Fonts, colours, logos, and photography all signal what your brand is about before you say a word. Make sure your visual identity reflects your tone, values, and energy — not just trends.

5. Create Emotional Anchors

What do you want people to feel when they think of your brand? Comfort? Curiosity? Confidence?

Emotion is what makes a brand unforgettable. Use messaging, imagery, and experience design to evoke those emotions — then reinforce them again and again.

6. Surprise, Delight, or Disrupt

To be remembered, you often need to do something unexpected. That might be a campaign with heart. A cheeky tone of voice. A packaging moment that makes someone smile. People remember how you made them feel — so make them feel something.

7. Stay True as You Grow

Strong brands evolve, but they don’t chase every trend or try to be everything to everyone. The best brands grow into sharper, more confident versions of themselves — without losing their essence.

At DW&Co., we believe unforgettable branding isn’t about being flashy — it’s about being true. True to your story, your values, your audience, and your difference.
